Deleting archivelogs on physical standby.

Hi,

We have a Broker managed configuration with one physical standby in Max Availability mode. 11.2.0.3.8 on Redhat 6.3.

I have set the RMAN property 'CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY' on both the primary & standby databases.

On the standby database the archived logs are not being deleted. They accumulate in the location specified by LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST1_1 and the disk group fills up.

We are not storing the archived log in the Flash Recovery Area (FRA).

Am I correct in saying that the 'APPLIED ON STANDBY' configuration parameter only deletes archived logs automatically if the archived logs are stored in the FRA? i.e. The location specified by db_recovery_file_dest.

Thanks

    Hello;

    No. For example you could have an RMAN command like this.

    delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';     ( Notice no FORCE is used )

    But if the Archive has not been applied it will throw an error and it won't delete them.

    That said using FRA is the way to go since you can setup automatic deletion of archive logs on the standby database.

    Best Regards
