Creating External Web Tier without DMZ Configuration

    D1990

      Hi Experts,

Now i am trying to create an External APPS Tier in a separate server without DMZ Configuration and I want that External APPS Tier to refer the same Database that the Internal APPS Tier is listening. I got a basic idea of Cloning the apps tier alone and post clone that in the target server. How may i connect that External APPS Tier to the database situated in the Source server. Do i need to make any relink between those two server's OS or do i need to add any entries to redirect the External APPS Tier to Database at the source server. I am following the Doc ID 287176.1. Help me in this process. I am waiting for your replies.

Not sure if I understand you correctly but all the configurations in  (Doc ID 287176.1) requires DMZ setup. Which configuration mentioned in the doc are you trying to implement?

          Thanks,

          Hussein

            Hi Hussein,

Sorry if my post confuses you. I just want to create an External Application tier in the test server and i want that tier to refer/access the Database situated in the PROD server. Can i do this without DMZ. I don't know whether (Doc ID 287176.1) is the right one for my process. I just go through it. Can you please shed some light for me.

DMZ setup is required -- You may log a SR to confirm the same with Oracle support.

              Thanks,

              Hussein

                Hi Hussein,

Thanks for your reply. I plan to go with the DMZ Configuration along with reverse proxy(Figure F3). I analyzed the document, applied all the patches, took pre-cloned backup of the Apps tier alone and plan to work on the DMZ Process in the target(External) server.Along with this process I asked my sys-admin to work on the reverse proxy configuration in a separate server. May i follow the normal process of post clone or do i have to do any changes in the post clone process. Is there any DOC that can help in my process.

You need to follow the regular Rapid Clone steps (which I believe you are aware of).

                  Thanks,

                  Hussein

Though highly recommend to follow oracle doc , you may refer to these links for easily understanding the steps you have to follow to achieve this. And my personal suggestion , raise an SR before hand for this activity to ensure a smooth go. please refer to :

                      Hi Hussein,

I tried post clone and started the apps tier in the target and it runs successfully on the port 8040 in my test server. My source apps tier also running on the port 8040 in my prod server. If i tried to start my prod apps while my test apps is up and running,it redirects to the test apps tier rather than the prod apps tier. I can see the changes in the URL of the browser after i logged in. If i stopped the services of my test and start the services at the prod then it shows the error unable to connect and i noticed the URL has changed to my test server. How to overcome this issue. I did the cloning as follows
