we have single node physical standby for 2 node 11gr2RAC production & another physical standby database for oracle e-business application at our DR site, we are planning to move these 2 standby to private cloud. if any disaster append to our production we need to switch to private cloud for the standby database.
could we do it? as we have 11gR2 DATABASE for the 2 production system, can we have this 11g database on cloud or do we need 12c version to have this feature?
Please clarify my doubts.
Thanks & Regards
I am not sure to which cloud you refer when you state "private cloud". However, yes,.... this is a very valid option to move your DR servers to the cloud.
There are however a couple of things you have to keep in mind.
- Legal and regulatory complaincy. Are you allowed to host your data off premise (or posisbly outside of your country)
- Will the cloud (where this is hosted) not provide you with issues in regards timeouts. Depending on your replication this can be critical and you might want to assure that you have a propper connection between your primary site and your DR-cloud
- Security and encryption in general however also in-transit.
Just some pointers to think about, however, yes this can be done.
