Something very odd is happening right now! When i restart the named service like this: ./service named start it truncates the files!!!
Like i checked the /ect/resolv.conf file after i restarted the named service and then checked the /etc/resolv.conf, the file is now empty! It happened to the other also, forward.zone also.
Is the resolv.conf file supposed to be owned by named? or root? Would wrong permissions cause this?
resolv.conf file should be owned by named user and group . If that doesn't fix it, then edit /etc/resolv.conf the way you want it, then fire the command :-
chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf
After that even root will not able to modify this file . But before implementing the locking the resolv.conf file , first implement the ownership on it and see it this resolve your issue .

Hi Shivendra, I am SO excited I was able to get the grid install past the SCAN portion. It failed on the vip name for the secondary rec node, but what I did was take off the localdomain
and it passed on through. I was not able to get DNS working, BUT, i placed one scan and ip address in the /ect/hosts file on each node and SCAN
finally recognized it
Shivendra, I have been working on this for weeks it feels so wonderful to get past this point! I want to thank you for all your help and guidance.
It was late last night so I had to get some sleep, but where I left the install was it failed on the part where it trys to create the dir for the $oracle_home and that's no big deal, just
permissions. When i get home, i will continue on and hopefully post a picture of RAC finally running
HI Shivendra, THE 11GR2 RAC INSTALL IS SUCCESSFUL!!!
I cannot upload a screenshot of it because i don't have permission to insert a image file, but it's installed and working . I am running cluster commands on it, it's ASM and everything.
I am going to make a detailed install document so I can do it over and over.
Thank you very much for helping me understand how RAC works!!!!
