    ORA-12528, TNS: Listener All appropriate instances are blocking new connect

    465802
      Hi all,

      Im new to Oracle. Just installed Oracle XE on a Suse 9.3 machine. When I connect remotely to the machine (f.i with Aqua Data Studio) using JDBC I get the following error:

      ORA-12528, TNS: Listener All appropriate instances are blocking new connections

      When I run oracle-xe status I get the following result

      Listening Endpoints Summary...
      (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhostip)(PORT=1521)))
      Services Summary...
      Service "PLSExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
      Instance "PLSExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
      Service "XE" has 1 instance(s).
      Instance "XE", status BLOCKED, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
      Service "XE_XPT" has 1 instance(s).
      Instance "XE", status BLOCKED, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
      The command completed successfully

      I must be doing something wrong. Anyone knows what ? Any help is appreciated!

      regards
      W.

          sounds like the database is mounted by not open?

          if you use sqlplus - can you connect?

            W - I agree with Tom - sounds like the database is not up or open

            From the SQL command line (using the same account you installed as), try the following

            Step 1.
            SQL>connect / as sysdba

            If it says connected, then go to step 2
            If it says connected to an idle instance, then

            SQL> startup;

            I suspect that this will give an error message - let us know if it does. If it doesn't, go to strep 2

            Step 2. From the sql command line, try a query
            SQL> select * from hr.employees;

            If this works, then the database if fine. Time to check listener status. From the OS command line, enter
            lsnrctl status

            You should see the services PLSExtProc, XE, XE_XPT) started successfully
            If you don't, try the following
            lsnrctl stop
            lsnrctl start
            Wait a few minutes then
            lsrnctl status

            If after the restart, you still have a problem, please report the output of the lsnrctl status

              Guys,

              I did what you sugested. SQL> startup; results in the following error

              SQL> startup;
              ORACLE instance started.

                Ok -

                did this ever work (had you ever been able to get into the database on this install)?

                was there anything reported during the installation?

                anything useful in /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/admin/XE/bdump/alert_XE.log?

                  Hi,

                  It never worked.

                  I found this message in Alert_XE.log

                  Starting ORACLE instance (normal)
                  Cannot determine all dependent dynamic libraries for /proc/self/exe

                  RPATH = /ade/aime1_build2101/oracle/has/lib/:/ade/aime1_build2101/oracle/lib/:/ade/aime1_build2101/oracle/has/lib/:
                  LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not set!
                  The default library directories are /lib and /usr/lib
                  Unable to find dynamic library libocrb10.so in search paths
                  Unable to find dynamic library libocrutl10.so in search paths
                  Unable to find dynamic library libocrutl10.so in search paths

                  Setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH correctly will probably help. What should a good value be ?

                  regards and I appreciate your help !

                    did it "install" however - is there even a database and all there (a set of files). Others have installed it on suse 9.3 (quick search of this forum turns that up)

                    did it install clean, or was there an issue.

                      Hi,

                      I installed by doing the following as root

                      rpm -i oracle-xe-10.2.0.1-0.1.i386.rpm

                      then run /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure

                      during these commands I did not see any error messages

                      regards

                        ok, let's see if we can get it started.. log into the os as oraclexe.

                        then source the file listed in the install guide to set up the environment.

                        then sqlplus / as sysdba

                        then

                        startup force

                        does it start?

                            your database is not really "started", therefore it is not registering. therefore the listener cannot service that service - there is nothing registered yet.

                            where have your control files gone to? did the database every actually get installed?

                              Hi.

                              Problem was solved by redownloading the install file. It seems it was corrupted.
