              In what mode you operating in your database ? if is it in mount mode , then place it to open mode .

              sql > select status from v$instance ;

              if you found it is in mount mode.

              sql > alter databse open ;

              sql > $ rman target sys/pwd@servicename ;

              this must solve your problem.

                      Hello Mani,

                      I have tried to simulate this. It seems that the Operating System user is not able to login to your target database as sysdba. To confirm this you can try to login to target database using "sqlplus /" on your command OS command prompt

                      either add the OS user in the dba group, so that it can login to the target database using rman target=/ nocatalog

                      or use rman target=sys/passwd nocatalog (.. give the username and the password of a sysdba user)

                      Cheers

                          Hello Mani,

                          What is the version of your target database (is it also 10g) From the error message it seems your target database is 8i. "Crosscheck archivelog" is supported 9i above

                          Regards
                          Sudhanshu

                              Have you already configured the channel , if not then you manually need to allocate it.

                                  Hi

                                  I think that you have compatibilities problem with the target database version and the catalog database version. Check the compatibility list. I think that your conbination is not supported!

                                  Evaluate the possibility to upgrade you catalog database.

                                  Bye, Aron
