I want to have a VM with Linux OS and 184.108.40.206/220.127.116.11 database running in it. I have Windows 7 OS in my laptop, so I want to install the VM with Linux and 11g DB in VM.
I downloaded Oracle VM box from Oracle site, now trying to download the VM templates for 11g database with the patch number 14000094.
But these patches are available in tar format, I can't untar them in Windows. Can you please guide me what the templates and from where I need to download for my requirement as explained.
Thanks in advance,
There are ways to convert OVM templates to VirtualBox templates, but it does require some technical expertise. The process may or may not work for these specific templates. An example is here - Build an EBS 12.1.3 Sandbox in VirtualBox in 1 Hour
Alternatively, if you have access to MOS, you can simply download 18.104.22.168 or 22.214.171.124 and install it in your Linux VM directly.

The pre-built developer VMs have Oracle Linux with 12c database setup. But I am looking for Linux with 11gR2 database setup.
It would be still okay to use it. You would skip doing the OS installations and for teh database, you can take help of articles written by Tim Hall (www.oracle-base.com ) .
I have never used one of those pre-built VMs. Why would you want to? All you need to do is:
Install VirtualBox (5 minutes)
Create and start a VM (1 minute)
Install Linux (20 minutes)
Install the database (20 minutes)
Create a databaee (10 minutes)
That is probably quicker than the OVM templates download.
For 10g, what I did was ... repartition my Windows PC, createa a Linux install , install Oracle, create database.
For 11g, I used the VM (found that a shortcut)
For 12c, some months ago, I started with Virtual Box install, created a VM, installed Linux install (OEL 6) , installed Oracle and created a database.
So, I have "hands on" experience with all methods !
