Enforcing Serial Control

We have a ATO model A for which we did not have any 'Serial control' (Inventory attribute on Master Item form) in place initially. Recently business realized that they needed serial control and hence we had to go and do the changes in the Master item form.

While attempting the changes Oracle shows the following warning/caution message (which can be bypassed):

Currently there are active install base item instances. These instance could be located in Inventory/WIP/Projects/In Transit or at customer location.

Changing this item control attribute may result in install base data being corrupted. Attribute modified: serial number control. Do you want to continue ?

Any inputs if there is any issue if we still go ahead and make the changes  ?

existing instances in install base will not be tagged to any serial numbers.

If you change the serial control, in worst case scenario, you may not be able to query data with respect to existing instance definitions.

Try changing the serial control on TEST instance and check if instances can be queried. If yes, go ahead.

else log an SR with Oracle, asking for a datafix.

    Hello Akhil,

Have you got any solution on this problem, we are facing similar error/issue with few items.

This item is not currently serialized in one organization and we want to now make it serialized, which should be consistent with the IB settings.
