Firstly, I'm new to this, and relatively new to windows (Mac user). Currently taking a class which required Oracle 11g R2 which I successfully downloaded on a virtual machine (vm fusion) using Windows 7.
I'm trying to configure SQL Plus to unlock Oracle's sample schemas however it is not accepting my user name and password. Im attempting to use the password I typed when I was first downloading oracle. I have also tried my username/password for my computer with no luck. My attempts have given me the following message:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
She recommends that we log into sqlplus as sysdba. I've tried sys, system and sysdba and have scoured the internet looking for an answer.
Desperately need help as my professor refuses to assist....
Paul is right. Check if oracle service is running or not (service name would in OracleService<SID>) format. If not running then start it. Once done, goto command prompt and run below command:
c:\> sqlplus / as sysdba SQL> alter user <username> identified by <password> account unlock;
Do not use "@" in your password.
As Onkar and Paul have suggested, check for the service for the oracle database in the Services. Using the shortcut Windows+ R , you would be able to come in the Run and you can type there services.msc. It would bring you to the Services and see if the service for your database is started or not. If not, start and reattempt to connect as SYSDBA.
