Not sure what version you are at, you may want to read below:
As of unpublished bug 17584823:
The cause of the hanging is that when Excel starts, it tries to initialize CStatusInfo which creates a thread.
Disabling the initialization of CStatusInfo stop the hanging from happening.
Upgrade to version 188.8.131.52.200, which resolves this issue.
Smart View 184.108.40.206.200 readme, states this as a fixed Defect:
17584823 -- In Office 2013, Excel freezes at startup if there are other add-ins enabled along with Smart View.
In OPTIONS menu in excel 2013 uncheck:
"Show the start up screen when this application starts"
I appreciate the help, but unfortunately we're using Office 2010 and Smartview 220.127.116.11.310. I should have specified the version numbers in my previous post. Office 2010 doesn't let you disable the start up screen without having to edit the registry, which is a bit of a riskier fix for just a workaround.
Thanks Jeff for your update. I'll see if I can suggest further action on it.
Were you able to offer an alternative solution?
Do you have a SR opened with Oracle Support to seek quick help, do let us know ?
How or where do you disable the Initialization of CstatusInfo? What is it?
Just a flyer here.
I had a similar result when opening a very old spreadsheet that has been used in the office for years. It turned out that Lotus compatibily settings had been enables in Excel for the sheet that was open. I disabled, and the issue stopped.
In Excel, go File|Options|Advanced and scroll to the bottom. The last two sections are lotus compatibility. Uncheck these.
Hope this shot in the dark hits the target for you!
