installing ODI master/work repositories on MS SQL Server

One of the projects I am working on is considering using ODI 11g as its ETL tool, but the need to use Oracle as the underlying repository DB has been raised. Being Oracle biased I had never even thought about the choice Oracle gives you in this respect. However, I've been challenged as to why we must use Oracle is Microsoft SQL Server is a certified location for an ODI master and work repository.

Has anyone got any guidance regarding this? Are there any rules to follow to determine when to use one db over another for the location of the repositories (specifically just the repositories)? Does it even matter? Should I embrace the brave new world of Microsoft?

Any sensible responses will be gratefully received!

      cheers,

      John
