UWC left menu randomly showing "Manage folders" instead of actual folders

    Deprecated

      Hello.

We're facing a weird problem with UWC webmail. Sometimes the left menu of the mail tab is not showing mail folders but "Manage Folders". This seems kind of random, you can press F5 and sometimes it shows OK and sometimes wrong.

This is what I can see in access log when the left panel is correctly shown:

Nothing in errors log. We have 4 webmail servers and it started happening apparently just like that in all of them. I've set up my etc/hosts and I've been trying each one at a time: the same result for the 4 of them.

Any hints, please? This is driving me crazy.

      Thank you very much.

Does this occur on first logging in to UWC interface or only when the page is refreshed or using forward / back browser navigation, or navigation back to the UWC page in the browser when a window / tab had been closed but UWC not logged out?

There have always been problems with UWC when refreshing the page or navigating back to it. Whether the problem is seen or not depends on timing issues, and as such can be influenced by the speed of the browser, client system, network, etc.

Unfortunately, this has always been an issue with the fundamental design of UWC and was deemed not feasible to fix many years ago. The Convergence client interface (the replacement for UWC) was designed not to have this problem and has been available for nearly 6 years.

Premier Support for UWC ended in March 2012 and was when new patches ceased to be generated. If you are not using the latest UWC (Communication Express) patch then it might be worth applying that as it contains some minor bug fixes that tried to mitigate a few specific triggers of the problem occurring but does not change the fundamental design and is no guarantee that you will see improved behaviour.
