Oracle 11gr2 Rac scan server setup step by step

    vk82

      Dear Guru's

I am new to Rac, Kindly advice how to setup scan settings. I am trying to configure rac on vmware workstation from last 3 days but not getting success.

I followed the ORACLE-BASE website to configure the Setup. I mention SCAN ip in /etc/hosts file which i know that is not recommended to mention in /etc/hosts file. But according to the doc i do that. My grid installation is done successfully except cluster verification services failed. According t oracle-base i ignore this error and finish the installation of grid. But when i run crs to verif y that grid installation is done properly The o/p shows only details or verification about node 1 but not for node 2. Which means there is some problem and also when same utility (crs) i run on 2nd node it shows o/p containing the node 2 values but not an information related to node. After ignoring all this stuff when i tr to install Oracle db i am only able to see node 1 only and not node 2 during creation of db.

      DB Version:- 11.2.0.1

      OS:- RHEL 5.4

      Vmware Workstation:- 7

Public ip:- 192.168.0.101 for node 1

      Private ip :- 192.168.1.101 for node 1

Public ip:- 192.168.0.102 for node 2

Private ip:- 192.168.1.102 for node 2

Kindly help over the same how to set scan server

Please guys help me over the same as i already wasted 3 days for the same issue but not able to get proper sol.

Guys help me over the same issue by giving example for  above mentioned ip

          Hi,

          Check the following

++ olsnodes -n (this should list the nodes part of the cluster)

If the above displays only 1 node then I would suggest to deinstall everything from second cluster and add the node back

Also, if you have configured scan via /etc/hosts, ensure that only single ip for scan has been defined for the scan name. And the same has been mentioned on both nodes which are/will be part of the cluster.

            Hi VK,

i feel like the error you ignored during RAC installation is creating a problem i believe. And also you dint mention anything about public vip which is important to be configured in /etc/hosts file. the public vip should have the same subnet as public ip address, but different IP address which should not be pingable(which means its a virtual IP address-- used only by oracle interconnects) until you configure/install RAC. Then Scan ip is used for client failover. it should use the same subnet as public ip address.

I suggest you to run the cluvfy utility (really useful) in spotting the issued. In your case , it will show what are the things you need to fix  in node 2 , fix all those until you receive same status across all nodes you going to configure.

            Cheers.

                Hi,

Do not specify 3 IP's for scan in /etc/hosts. Instead use DNS for scan. If you do not have DNS then mention just 1 IP in /etc/hosts for scan.
