Here you can find requirements for Oracle 12c (both software and hardware):
And using VMware does not change those requirements.
However from VMware website you can find several best practices guides about using Oracle on VMware
According to the doc RAM requirement is 2GB min. But i am providing 3gb for both node. But my installation is going to be hangeded and does not give any error and also not any progress in the installation during grid infrastructure this time. Prior to this grid software is installed successfully but during db creation time the hanging problem is there.
So there is no fixed hanging problem. That's why i am confused why the problem is there.
DB Version is 184.108.40.206.0
os:- RHEL 5.4
Storage Currently using for Installation is ..;-NFS
Can anyone of you suggest me what procedure need to follow in this scenerio
You should check installation logs to get more info about this hang.
If this hang is happening during database creation:
Please check the DBCA installation log from here (or if you did give some other path for this then there):
But if this hang happens during Grid Infra installation then check logs from here:
If you check the installation log files and you don't see any errors in there , then what is the last thing you can see from the logs?
How long have you waited installer?
It can take a while to finish because the RAC virtual machines are located in the same host machine.
Did you get any error from OUI (Oracle Universal Installer) prechecks?
I have created 2 node cluster with below configuration.
Core 2 Duo processor.
1G RAM Allocated to Each VM.
Each VM should be on Different Disk. (Use Allocate all disk space at once option while creating Disk)
I have also faced this issue while creating Database. but then I tried to place VM's on separate Disks.
Which resolved the issue and the VM's were performing much faster than the earlier configuration.
Requirements are :
1. VMs will each need at least 3G of RAM, preferably 4G is good.
2. There is no redundancy in the Grid Infrastructure installation or the ASM installation. To add this, simply create double the amount of shared disks and select the "Normal" redundancy option when it is offered.
3. The Single Client Access Name (SCAN) should be defined in the DNS or GNS and round-robin between one of 3 addresses, which are on the same subnet as the public and virtual IPs.
4. Create RAC-1 machine with all per-requisites and you can clone and change the IP addresses for RAC-2
5. Create Share Disks - Use the following tools for Windows
b. C:> cd grid\asmtool
Hope it helps...
Thanks for your information,
But i format the complete drive where my vmware software machine are created. But my hanging problem is still there. Actulally i have 80 gb drive in which i place 3-4 machine but in switch off mode there i am creating rac1 and rac2 node.
Kindly suggest me what i need to do. Because as the Requirements all you mentioned baove i already met but still my machine hangs.
Please do the need ful
Usually it take lot of Time at 85% and we think its hanged.
Did you try to allocate all disk space at once to your VM?
In My case this was resolved when I placed the VM on different Disks and allocating all disk space at once to VM?
This issue I have faced lot of times but I could not find anything in the LOGS. Can you please check if you can find anything in logs?
Also when you feel its hanged then try below command to check if the size of Oracle Home is increasing.
watch 'du -sh'
This command will keep on refreshing the size of your ORACLE_HOME directory so that you can check if the files are still copying or not. sometimes it copied files at a very low speed of 1MB/Sec.
Please revert in case you are still facing this issue . . . .
