    OVM and CNA adapters Qlogic

    Aleksey Isaev

      Hi.

We have HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 server with two Qlogic 8362 CNA. OVM not visible whis adapter and i not found any list of supported CNA adapter by OVM.

Question - There are drivers for these cards? There is a list of supported CNA adapters? OVM 3.2.7 supported any FCoE?

      Thanks

          No support for FCoE

            Confirmation?

Look at MOS (my oracle support). Do you have anything that says Oracle VM supports FCoE?

Have you checked the manufacturer of your cards? Do they say they support Oracle VM? If not, then you have your answer.

There is a recent discussion on this in the forum...

Yes, direct reference about support FCoE is no available.

                But exist indirect reference(IMHO):

QLogic currently does not provide a supported driver for the QLE8242 CNA network card on Oracle VM Server Release 3.1 or Release 3.2. Installation of the provided RedHat driver fails with the error message, Cannot determine the Redhat release.

The VM Manager has not mechanism to discover or manage FCoE connections. The reference in the CNA in the documentation is dealing with the adapter as an 10 GBe NIC.... Which the VM Manager can do easily...

So, you just configured your FC(oE)-LUNs on your NetApp and the OVMS just picked them up? I thought, that there would be some manual configuration involved, when setting up fcoe on the host, e.g. which interface to use etc.

Yes, after rescan Unmanaged Fibre Channel Storage Array in OVM all lun's make visible from manager,no additional action hands.

                          I was pleasantly surprised )

QLE 8632 is support on version 3.2.8 with new kernel UEK2-400

                            https://blogs.oracle.com/virtualization/category/Oracle/Oracle+VM:

We also provide a separate Oracle VM Server 3.2.8 ISO built with a newer kernel,  UEK2-400 (or more specifically kernel-uek-2.6.39-400.214.3.el5uek). The default kernel still remains UEK2-300 but in case a customer requires this newer kernel it is now also available through a support request.
