I am trying to use a page process to complete data INSERT and then close the browser or have some kind of branching to close the browser. Is it possible to close the browser this way in apex 4.2 + ?
Why do you want to do this?
Rich I dont need many clicking all my data can be rendered on the main page I don't need popup....regards

This method is only allowed to be called for windows that were opened by a script using the window.open method.
Don't try to implement this, it's bound to be annoying more than anything else. Or you'll start to try to "hack" around it, maybe exploiting some workaround in one browser or the other. Just be sensible and for example, log the user out and redirect them to a public page thanking them for their cooperation and the results have been sent/saved. They'll know they can close safely.
i did redirect to dummy page then before header to that page called js to fire window close () works in all browser except FF. I'll go with that.
