in addittion to above , we will keep the OS and Application same , this is only Replacing New Servers.
please help in this
seems to me you are describing cpu, intel xeon cpu
you are missing, so, version, bit, server model
i will assume say dl360 or dl380 to a similar model,
for os i am assuming linux, say rehar or oracle linux 5 64 bit
if so remains the same architecture, then you can clone.
che r12 clone note
Yes , its OS RHEL 5.5 64 -bit will remain same .Server model is BL460c , its changing from G7 to G8 . is there any other method other than cloning ?
if cloning , how can we make the new server with Existing settings like ( same hostname and same architecture(Shared appl_top pcp + 2 nodes RAC))
Please help in this .
what is the best method to do this task
Technically, it's not impossible to switch the environment to the new servers, if ALL of the respective servers KEEP the at least the server and domain name.
Obviously, the old servers (the names, that is) need to be removed from the infrastructure, at the exact time of the Oracle switch. If other software is running there, that may be one of the issues.
Still, this kind of exercise is still not "easy", it's less documented, and I wouldn't advice it.
The standard Cloning procedure, with RAC support, still would do exactly what you require. It's one of the many cases this tool is written for. It WILL be running more scripts and updates than strictly necessary, which I don't consider as a problem, but rather as additional validation.
