    Unable to create FS in new HDD in X86

      Dear All,

      I had installed Solaris 10 in X86 Machine. I had installed OS in 1 HDD and kept other HDD for data purposes.But i m neither able to format the disk nor able to create a partition on it. I had enclosed you the putty logs of those steps. Request you to kindly help me.

          It seems to me that the disk is not ok as when you run format it reports ilegal request

          I would try format -> analyze ->read , to check if the disk c0t1d0 is ok.

           

          Then you can create any partition and on the top create a newfs for instance or include the devide in a ZFS pool?

            You have a Solaris partition on the disk.

            You cannot create a new one without deleting the first one.

             

            My recommendation:

            Use 'format' ->   c0t1d0 -> partition -> print

            *If needed partition the disk.

             

            Then try 'newfs' on the /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0sX  (slice you want to use)

            Then mount it in /mnt for testing - if all goes well, edit /etc/vfstab and add the disk.

             

            The error seen can be the controller not allowing the requests done by format, but you should

            need to use 'format -> format'
