This one is way out there, but I was wondering if there's a way to run a program that displays a single line of information, but stays resident at the top of the screen at all times, regardless of login.
My hope is to have something that can say "service running - ramdisk online - time and date" that's always-on-top at the top of the screen
is there any way to configure that? would bash even work if something were always up there? have I reached too far? Thanks!
Check out the PROMPT_COMMAND variable in bash. Your .bashrc file can have something like this:
PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne "\033]0;service running - ramdisk online - $(date +"%h %d %Y %H:%M")\007"'
