Yes, Goldengate is only for Schema to Schema replication. You need to mention the schema names in the Extract and Replicat parameters which you wanted to replicat using GoldenGate. I don't think you can configure the replication at database level (like Physical Standby).

Is there any MOS document which has best practices for configuring entire database level replication using GG ? Unfortunately I am unable to fine any document on this topic.
Please check and refer the below link. My suggestion is to try Oracle GoldenGate 12c which has most advanced features than earlier version. Try to go for Integrated Capture and Integrated Replicat features. These are the best features in Oracle GoldenGate 12c.
