We've only tested/certified the Cloudera ones.
Generally speaking, if you grab a JDBC driver that we don't 'know' about, it won't work.
you should test it with your installation of Hortonworks - I'm able to connect to Hive in Hortonworks Sandbox 2.0 with JDBC drivers from Cloudera - related SQL Dev and Data Modeler functionality work in such scenario. But then you need to check what is your EULA with Cloudera about such usage.
As Jeff pointed SQL Developer doesn't allow other drivers to be installed. You can download standalone version of Data Modeler and there are no limitations on third party JDBC drivers.
