Manish_singhMar 31 2015 — edited Mar 31 2015

Hi All,

Can someone tell me what's the location for the Server alert log in  10g. Like we have in 11g in $GRID_HOME/log/servername location.

Regards,

Manish Singh.

Oracle 8i is the product of Oracle corporation. No other company can provide the bug fixes/patches for the same (I don't know if there are any authorized distributors for Oracle patches).

Haven't you considered an upgrade as one of the easier options?

Due to economic crisis, our company is planning to stay with oracle 8i with a few more years and planning to upgrade the whole environment to the latest environment.

Kindly help.

I can't help except for the advice to get in touch with Oracle sales and support and work your way through.

Hmm if the economic crisis is the reason to stay with 8i, I am not sure that how you would end up paying an arm and leg for the support of an obsoleted product version? Do get in touch with Oracle sales and see if they can help you as Satish has mentioned.

8.1.7 is under "Sustaining Support"

If you
a. Have the license for the software
AND
b. Have been paying support fees every year

you are entitled to patches that have already been released. However, Oracle will not work to create a new patch if your error-case is one for which they do not have a patch.

See http://www.oracle.com/us/support/policies/index.html
and the document "Oracle's Technical Support Policies" and the document (linked from the first) "Lifetime Support Policy".

Hi All,
I am very grateful for all your responses.

We are planning in staying with Oracle 8i on platform AIX 5.3 TL 10. i do understand from your comments there is no company in the world other than oracle cooperation can provide correction patches for Oracle database.

We have been running this configuration from 2006 until now without any issue. I seek your point of view for a risk analysis, if we will continue to run the same configuration for 3 more years prior upgrading.

Thanks.

Bearing in mind that more you are waiting to upgrade, more difficult it will be. The direct upgrade to the latest Oracle version takes less and less in account the old version, forcing you to upgrade within "bridge" database(s) - intermediate step(s), making it more complicated, longer and risky. And that's not going to be better for your 8i version in 3 years time within the upcoming versions.

Nicolas.

Since 2006? Good grief! 8i was obsolete when you started.
