Why does SQL Developer not use the predefined substitution variables that are available in SQL*Plus, such as _connect_identifier ?

    Larrisko

In SQL*Plus we have several predefined substitution variables that are helpful:

      USER1@somedb> define

      DEFINE _DATE           = "15-MAY-15" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _CONNECT_IDENTIFIER = "somedb" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _USER           = "USER1" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _PRIVILEGE      = "" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _SQLPLUS_RELEASE = "1102000400" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _EDITOR         = "Notepad" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _O_VERSION      = "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production

With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options" (CHAR)

      DEFINE _O_RELEASE      = "1102000300" (CHAR)

But when I run a 'define' in a SQL Developer connection, these are not shown. Is there somewhere in SQL Developer where this SQL*Plus behavior can be turned on?

      Thanks!
