    Latest update for EBS R12.2?

      Hi all,

      Are there news or plans for the next release of EBS R12.2.x? e.g. R12.2.5 or greater?

      Thanks a lot,

      MK

          Hi,

          Still there is no update for 12.2.5 or higher.

          We are using latest R12.2.4 only.

          Regards

          Kumar

            Thanks dear friend Kumar,

            Can you please make tar gz backup of your base PROD apps tier and db tier (base - mean initial PROD setup only and no data loaded yet).

            e.g.

            tar -zcvf /u01/applprod.tar.gz /u01/applprod

            tar -zcvf /u02/oraprod.tar.gz  /u02/oraprod

            Our backup size is 32Gb for apps and 11Gb for db

            but when i compared it to base of this VM install https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/e_business_suite_12_2

            I got 34Gb for apps and 18Gb for db.

            How do I spot the missing patches or files from our base PROD setup?

            Thanks a lot....

              Hi,

              The link does not list space requirements, maybe one of the documents referenced in it.

              The way you are comparing is not practical. You are using TAR with compression option.

              There could be differences in the compression methods used.

              You mentioned 34 GB for apps and 18 GB for db, is this the size of the VM images or the folders?

              Regards,

              Bashar

                Thanks dear friend,

                This what I did.

                Step1. I installed  ebs r12.2.4 using the stage ebs in e-delivery which is very painstaking.(with the help of some guru friends, coz I can not do it myself )

                Step2. I installed ebs r12.2.4 using the VM images which is very much easier. (Had this images been available earlier I should have used it to avoid hardships in the installation process)

                Then I took backup of the two instances using tar compression. but the VM images setup is bigger that the staging setup. meaning they have installed more patches and file updates.

                You mentioned 34 GB for apps and 18 GB for db, is this the size of the VM images or the folders? >>

                This is the actual size of the backup tar compression as in> tar -zcvf /u02/oraprod.tar.gz  /u02/oraprod. Note that I was able to setup the VM Apps & prod DB instance.

                Yes I use  TAR with compression for both our PROD  and the VM installed. VM setup is transparent and considered as normal linux OS becuase I did the backup inside the VM linux instance. So there must be big difference in files and patches installed compared to our PROD installation.

                My question is how do I check which file updates or patches are not present in our PROD instance? making it have smaller sized backup?

                Thanks  a lot....

                  Hi,

                  The difference in database tier can be the result of different sizes of databases on both systems.

                  Check this by running this SQL query:

                  select sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 size_in_gb

                  from dba_data_files;

                  You should use the following methods to compare the two instances:

                  1. Compare the table AD_APPLIED_PATCHES to find the applied application patches.
                  2. Use OPatch to check technology stack patches applied on both application and database tiers (10.1.2 home, FMW home 11.1.1.6 and db home 11.2.0.3+)
                    opatch lsinventory
                  3. Execute the following commands to check the applied patches on WebLogic.
                    1. Login as the applmgr user
                    2. export ORACLE_HOME=$FMW_HOME
                    3. cd $ORACLE_HOME/utils/bsu
                    4. ./bsu.sh -view -status=applied -prod_dir=$ORACLE_HOME/wlserver_10.3

                  Regards,

                  Bashar

                    I will check that methods...brb

                    Is there no steps for comparing the database recorded patches like > SELECT * FROM AD_BUGS? or other patch tables?

                    Thanks again...

                      Hi,

                      You can get the patch difference by creating the database link between 2 instances and query for ad_bugs/ad_applied_patches like below.

                      select patch_name from ad_applied_patches where patch_name not in (select patch_name from

                      ad_applied_patches@DB_LINK_NAME)

                      select bug_number from ad_bugs where bug_number not in (select bug_number from

                      ad_bugs@DB_LINK_NAME)

                      Regards,

                      Kiran

                          Hi Bashar, Aj, Kumar, Kj, Jd,

                          At the VM appliance instance I run the following:

                          SQL> select count(*) from ad_applied_patches_vm;

                            COUNT(*)

                          ----------

                                 120

                          SQL> select count(*) from ad_bugs_vm;

                            COUNT(*)

                          ----------

                              477463

                          While At our PROD instance I run the following:

                          SQL> select count(*) from ad_applied_patches_crp;

                            COUNT(*)

                          ----------

                                  97

                          SQL> select count(*) from ad_bugs_crp;

                            COUNT(*)

                          ----------

                              477198

                          Why is there so big difference

                          What shall I do?

                          Thanks a lot....

                            Bashar.

                            Hi,

                            Don't compare the numbers!

                            Use the query provided by KJ to find which patches are missing from each system. A little change to the first query to find missing patches in each instance:

                            1) Run from the CRP db

                            select patch_name from ad_applied_patches

                            where patch_name not in (select patch_name from ad_applied_patches@VM);

                            2) Run from the VM db

                            select patch_name from ad_applied_patches

                            where patch_name not in (select patch_name from ad_applied_patches@CRP);

                            Regards,

                            Bashar

                              Thanks dear,

                              But the fact that the table count is bigger, does it not denotes inconsistencies?

                              I also compared the VISION database  and PROD database of both the VM appliance and they got very big difference

                              To think that they belong to the same VM appliance?

                              SQL>  select count(*) from ad_applied_patches_vision;

                                COUNT(*)

                              ----------

                                    4558

                              SQL> select count(*) from ad_bugs_vision;

                                COUNT(*)

                              ----------

                                  518308

                              This is the PROD DB  VM appliance count:

                              ===============================

                              SQL> select count(*) from ad_applied_patches_prod;

                                  Hi,

                                  The bug count allows you to know if there are a lot of differences between two systems but it is not useful for anything else.

                                  There could be common bugs, bugs fixed at one side and bugs fixed at the other side.

                                  Regards,

                                  Bashar

                                    My problem now is I can not create db links because the two instances are on separate server with disconnected network.

                                    I will try some workaround....brb
