So i want to know whether this db version supports rhel 7 or not.... if not which Database is supported in RHEL 7 ????? i Couldn't find any proper certification information.... And one more question, does any version of ORACLE 12C DB support in rhel 7? Pls help............

Your error could simply be because of file / folder permissions.

Nevertheless ,11.2.0.2 is NOT certified on RHEL 7.

Hi Hemanth i've tried almost all options regarding folder / file permissions , u shud check this.. If i've missed somethng pls update.....

[oracle@localhost database]$ ls -l

total 32

drwxrwxr-x. 12 oracle oinstall 4096 Mar 26  2011 doc

drwxrwxr-x.  4 oracle oinstall 4096 Mar 28  2011 install

drwxrwxr-x.  2 oracle oinstall   58 Mar 28  2011 response

drwxrwxr-x.  2 oracle oinstall   33 Mar 28  2011 rpm

-rwxrwxrwx.  1 oracle oinstall 8560 Mar 28  2011 runInstaller

drwxrwxr-x.  2 oracle oinstall   28 Mar 28  2011 sshsetup

drwxrwxr-x. 14 oracle oinstall 4096 Mar 28  2011 stage

-rwxrwxr-x.  1 oracle oinstall 5575 Dec 18  2010 welcome.html

[oracle@localhost database]$ ./runInstaller

./runInstaller: line 254: /home/oracle/database/install/.oui: cannot execute binary file

So Hemanth if not certified then that might be a problem ????  shud i go for 11.2.0.4 (Patch - full version) or Oracle 12 C (12.1.0.2.0, i've read somewhere it is certified for rhel 7)

Dude!

./runInstaller: line 254: /home/oracle/database/install/.oui: cannot execute binary file

Certification is not the reason why you can or cannot run the OUI installer. You may have the wrong installation media, e.g. Oracle 11g for IBM Z machines (Z64) or may be missing execute and read permissions in any of the parent directories.

Ok dude.. please help me in this situation.... first of all we'll just look into your 1st doubt, how to check whether its IBM Z machine or not, and pls provide compatible oracle db linux version... i've read abt this command... check this....

[oracle@localhost ~]$ readelf -h /home/oracle/database/install/.oui
ELF Header:

Does this help for IBM version? or any other command?

And i've downloaded this file....

And i've performed Oracle 11g R2 Preinstallation requisites , So where can i miss "execute and read permissions in any of the parent directories"  ...  Can u please help to find out ??????

I believe you will need the generic Linux install media, not the zLinux version.

Dude!

The error message you are seeing is typical when trying to run an incompatible Linux binary, for example, trying to execute a zLinux 64-bit binary under a x64 (x86_64) system. I was only guessing that might you might be using the 11g for zLinux installer, or maybe you are confusing the installation media. Some people just read 64-bit and think that's what they need. However, I cannot guess what type of machine you have, or what you have installed, or what you should install unless you tell use what kind of computer or CPU you have.

Dude!

Looking at the screen shot, showing Intel iCore, you cannot use Oracle 11g for zLinux and need to download and install 11g for x64 or x86_64 instead. This explains the error you have been experiencing.

Oh i see.... Do u think i should go for 11.2.0.4 (patch edition) then, coz 11.2.1.0 or 11.2.2.0 are not certified with rhel7.... And do u recommend oracle 12c (12.1.0.2.0) for rhel7 ???

3012882

Ok many many thanks for the clarification.... When i am coming to linux i am newbie... So can't decide the correct version..... I will download and update later......  I think i will go for oracle 12c (12.1.0.2.0 is certified with rhel7) instead of 11g ...

Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.2.0) for Linux x86-64

linuxamd64_12c_database_1of2.zip (1,673,544,724 bytes) (cksum - 839029806)

linuxamd64_12c_database_2of2.zip (1,014,530,602 bytes) (cksum - 1187131466)

Is this compatible for my PC ??????? i think AMD doesn't mean for amd only, does it ?

One more question this /u01 folder which was created during oracle 11gr2 prerequisite installation found in /root folder..... And my /root have just only 4gb empty space, does this enough for Oracle db installation which installs in /u01 or shud i increase /root partition size??? i also noticed /tmp is also created in /root which affects the size of /root ............

Please suggest Partition sizes for RHEL7 provided with 30 GB HD ( i can also increase size to 40 GB max) ... Thanks for ur time

Dude!

RHEL is not a free product and neither is Oracle Database.  If you have Oracle database 11gR2 version 11.2.0.1, than Enterprise Linux release 5 is the last certified RHEL based Linux version. 11.2.0.3 is required for release 6 and 11.2.0.4 or 12.1.0.2 for release 7.

You cannot download Oracle database patches or the most recent version without a support contract. Based on my own experience, 11.2.0.1 installs and runs without problems under release 6, as long as you don't try to install Grid or ASM, which installation fails due to underlying OS differences.

If you want to stick to RHEL release 7 and have to rely on free OTN downloads only, then installing 12.1.0.2 is the most straight forward option. Personally, I would not use RHEL and install Oracle Linux instead, which is free, including errata and other updates.

You cannot install Oracle without reading the installation guide and not having any clue. /u01 is typically a mounted volume and not a directory under root. 4 GB is not enough. Please check the standard installation documentation, which should answer the most basic installation and setup questions.

Thanks for your time DUDE......  I would like go with your suggestion but i can't download everything because of low bandwidth.... For time sake i will stick to rhel and 12c like u suggested.... And sure i will go for OEL eventually....... I do have good knowledge in windows but not in linux, so mistakes happen....And also i have to start someday right??  And these are for just practice purpose, so i'll stick to free products...

Thanks man for your suggestions.....

Dude!

Btw, you may not have enough physical memory (RAM) for RHEL 7 and Oracle database 12c. For RHEL 7, 1 GB or RAM is recommended per CPU. Looking at the small size of your HD. It looks like you have the system partitioned with dual-boot. Better would be to put in at least 8 GB of RAM and run Oracle Linux or RHEL inside VirtualBox, in which case virtual machine disks will simply be files on your host system.
