Running 22.214.171.124.59 on a single monitor system, mousing over the SQL_FULLTEXT column of a V$SQL query, I get the "nice pop-up bubble". Does your co-worker on 126.96.36.199 have a single or dual monitor configuration, and if dual, is the hardware and software exactly like yours? One likely difference is Java 7 vs Java 8, and these dual monitor issues can be hard to track down.
Perhaps others with dual monitor configurations can comment on their experience. Best to log an SR on My Oracle Support.
Co-worker has the same equipment as me. Same laptop and monitor. We are both using the monitor as our primary screen, laptop as the secondary screen. I get the same behavior when I'm running only on my laptop, so I don't know that it's a dual monitor issue.
Help -> About -> Version shows I'm running Java 1.8.0_45. He's running Java 1.7.0_25. That might be the problem. Maybe.
Another co-worker is using the same SQL Developer version as me, plus Java 1.8.0_25, and has the same problem I am having.
Adding to Jeff's comments, I un-docked my laptop (a 3 year old Lenovo T420 with Win 7) and reverted from Java 8 u60 to u45. No problems using the Object Browser's editor grid on V_$SQL's SQL_FULLTEXT column or the Worksheet's query result grid on select sql_fulltext for V_$SQL.
I also played around with the grid column's Auto-fit options, and the mouse-over always works properly.
Additional environment info: Oracle 188.8.131.52 instant client, using JDBC Thin driver, against a local Oracle 11g XE (184.108.40.206) database.
I played around with all of the Auto-Fit settings as well and couldn't get the hover box to behave any differently. I also can't find any setting in Tools -> Preferences that might control this behavior.
Received an answer back from Oracle.
Try setting the following preferences:
- open Tools/Preferences/Environment
- set "Look and Feel" = Oracle
- set "Line Terminator" = Platform Default
This fixed it. I had "Look and Feel" set to "Windows". Changing to "Oracle" now gets me long SQL statements in a much easier to read pop-up box.
I'll still argue that it should display the text that way regardless of the "Look and Feel" I choose. Maybe it will be fixed/changed in a future release.
