    weblogic startup - The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

    user12027124

      Hi guys very new to weblogic.

      webLogic 10.3.6

      windows 7 64 bit

      I installed webLogic and everything worked fine until I did a system reboot and now I get the above error when I start up. I have read this means it is having trouble connecting to the database yet the db and its listeners register as being up.

      I am wondering if anyone could help me trace this issue.

      The output is shown below :

        • 1. Re: weblogic startup - The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
          Jay SenSharma MiddlewareMagic

          As this is a  "Network Adapter could not establish the connection" which usually happens if the Oracle Database is either not listening on the listener port  or there might be some other n/w related issue.

          Caused by: java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

                  at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.logon(T4CConnection.java:458)

          The easiest way to test the same will be to write a simple Standalone java based JDBC connectivity code to connect to the same Database and use the same DB connection URL, DB username/password and the JDBC driver.   Run that code from the box where the above WebLogic is running.

          I guess thee standalone program will also fail with the same exception. Which will help us in isolating the issue, Whether it is from the WLS side or from the DB side or if there is any n/w issue.

          import java.sql.Connection;
          import java.sql.Date;
          import java.sql.DriverManager;
          import java.sql.ResultSet;
          import java.sql.SQLException;
          import java.sql.Statement;

          public class DBTest {
            public static final String DBURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE";  // Change it with your oracle db url
            public static final String DBUSER = "system";                // DB username
            public static final String DBPASS = "manager";             // DB password

            public static void main(String[] args) throws SQLException {
                 DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
                 Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(DBURL, DBUSER, DBPASS);
                 System.out.println("Successfully connected to the Database.");
                  con.close();
            }
          }

          Please refer to the : Connecting to Oracle Database in Java    For a simpla standalone java code to test the DB connectivity related issue.

            To test DB connection it is possible to use:

            setWLSEnv.sh(.cmd)

            java utils.dbping DBMS user password DB

            (https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/admin_ref/utils11.html)

              guys thanks for the help so far. I'm not really a java person more an installer so will try this. However I was wondering about tracing the settings and seeing where it is failing in the logs. Surely somewhere it must say : try to make this connection using these values and in some log somewhere it should say "tried to make this connection ... connection details...  and here is the error message" preferably an ora-....

                From the log, there is an issue initializing security realm:

                <Error> <Security> <BEA-090870> <The realm "myrealm" failed to be loaded: weblogic.security.servi

                ce.SecurityServiceException:

                Are you using a DB authentication provider ? If so, try checking the connectivity to the DB as mentioned in the previous replies..

                Regards,

                Mohab

                  The Datasource URL/username etc information you should be able to find in your "E:\oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\servers\AdminServer\jdbc\$SOMEFILENAME.xml"

                  Check which Database/DataSource your AdminServer Security realm is configured to initialize.

                  In order to isolate this issue and to find out what is the cause (from N/W side or from DB side) Try connecting to that database using either the java code which i posted earlier

                  OR

                  if you are not much familiar with it then you can also use the DB ping utilities which are shipped with WebLogic as mentioned by "Igoroshka"

                  Example:

                  java utils.dbping ORACLE_THIN scott tiger dbserver1:1561:demo

                  Here    dbUsername=scott

                              dbPassword=tiger

                              DB Url: dbserver1:1561:demo    (you can find that URL in your datasource config file)
