Oracle Linux calculating support level regarding VMware infrastructure

schindlerdFeb 25 2016 — edited Mar 8 2016

Hi all,

Wim published a great article some time ago now https://blogs.oracle.com/wim/entry/oracle_linux_and_oracle_vm explaining the pricing guide for Oracle Linux.

We are mainly running VMware infrastructure and I would be really interested in how this is calculated. We are running multiple Cisco UCS Blades (each 2 sockets) in our cluster. Would I have to sum up all blades to get the number of sockets that have to be licensed?

Let's assume the VMware cluster consits of 3 virtual hosts, each running 2 sockets. I have 4 OL machines running on the cluster which I want to license with basic support. How would that be calculated? Do I have to order 3 times basic limited support regarding the actual number of virtual hosts?

The question is similar to the one Jan Prucha posted in the comment section of the article mentioned above.
