Do you mean they are running something for 5 minutes in Smart View and then the error appears? if so you can increase the timeouts in the mod_wl_ohs.conf
For aps add timeout settings something like
These timeouts are just examples, change them to fit your requirements
Should I change the WLIOTimeoutSecs value from 3600 to 36000?
If you already have the timeout setting for APS in you conf file then that is probably not the reason as 3600 seconds is 60 minutes
Maybe you have a timeout on a load balancer.
You might want to increase the timeout and check:
Smartview in Excel utilizes some Microsoft settings that it obtains From IE. When running on IE 7 or higher there are new settings that have a low default time out. You can increase these by following the instructions in the articles listed below
Make sure you have a safe backup of the windows registry before you do this .
1. Open the Registry (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2. Locate the following section:
3. Create the following new keys for DWORD with Hexadecimal values:
ReceiveTimeout and set it to 00dbba00
KeepAliveTimeout and set it to 00180000
ServerInfoTimeout and set it to 00180000
4.Disconnect and close the Smartview and launch a fresh connection
Usually you will get a netRetrycount and netRetryInterval error with Smart View and Essbase if it is related to the client timeout, more info
Troubleshooting Smart View Error: "The request timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetrycount and netRetryInterval" or "to extend your Windows Internet Explorer time out settings (ReceiveTimeout, KeepAliveTimeout, and ServerInfoTimeout)" (Doc ID 1995401.1)
Here are some more support docs on the original error which point to increasing the timeout at OHS, alternatively look at load balancer timeouts.
Smart View Error "Cannot connect to the provider. Make sure it is running in the specified host/port. Error (503)" (Doc ID 1676636.1)
In SmartView Retrieval, Getting "cannot connect to the provider. Make sure it is running in the specified host/port. Error (503) (Doc ID 1934091.1)
Thanks for the clarification John!
John & Vikram,
We seem to not encounter this issue when using the Non-Load Balancer URL in the Smartview.
Checking with the Load Balancer team on the timeout settings and will update once there is a positive response.
Thanks for your valuable help and suggestions on this issue.
Well you have already provided the solution. Issue is with your load balancer time-out. You must have to work with IT Support Team to fix this.
