Can I purge forms logs without backup?

    Beauty_and_dBest

      Hi ALL,

      EBS R12.1.3

      11gR1

      OL5

Can I purge the following logs without backup? Or Is there a concurrent program I can use to purge the following?

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/forms/forms_default_group_2/application.log

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/forms/forms_default_group_1/application.log

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/oacore/oacore_default_group_2/application.log

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/oacore/oacore_default_group_3/application.log

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/oacore/oacore_default_group_1/application.log

      /u01/app/PROD/inst/apps/PROD_ebiz/logs/oafm/oafm_default_group_1/application.log

Where do the above logs located/fall among the following?

      – Apache, OC4J and OPMN:

      $LOG_HOME/ora/10.1.3/Apache
      $LOG_HOME/ora/10.1.3/j2ee
      $LOG_HOME/ora/10.1.3/opmn

      – Startup/Shutdown Log files:

      $INST_TOP/logs/appl/admin/log

      – Patch log:

      $APPL_TOP/admin/$SID/log/

      – Autoconfig log file:

      Apps:

      $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/log/$MMDDHHMM/adconfig.log

      Db:

      $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/<MMDDHHMM>/adconfig.log
      $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/<MMDDHHMM>/NetServiceHandler.log

      – Concurrent log:

      $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/logs/appl/conc/log

      – Clone log:

Preclone log files in source instance

      Apps:

      $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/log/ (StageAppsTier_MMDDHHMM.log)

      Db:

      $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/(StageDBTier_MMDDHHMM.log)

Clone log files in target instance

      Apps :

      $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/log/ApplyAppsTier_<time>.log

      Db:

      $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/ApplyDBTier_<time>.log

      – Alert Log File:
      $ORACLE_HOME/admin/$CONTEXT_NAME/bdump/alert_$SID.log

      Please help...

      Kind regards,

      jc

          Hello Jenna,

You can safely delete those logs. It is advisable to keep logs of past 1-2 days and remove the rest.

To remove concurrent request/manager logs, follow below doc

          https://docs.oracle.com/cd/A60725_05/html/comnls/us/fnd/filema01.htm

            Thanks girish a nd ALL,

I already have a purge schedule for removing concurrent request/manager logs.

            – Startup/Shutdown Log files:

            $INST_TOP/logs/appl/admin/log

            – Patch log:

            $APPL_TOP/admin/$SID/log/

            $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/<MMDDHHMM>/adconfig.log

            – Clone log:

Preclone log files in source instance

            Apps:

            $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/log/ (StageAppsTier_MMDDHHMM.log)

            Db:

            $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/log/$CONTEXT_NAME/(StageDBTier_MMDDHHMM.log)

Clone log files in target instance

            Apps :

            $INST_TOP/apps/$CONTEXT_NAME/admin/log/ApplyAppsTier_<time>.log

All the below logs can be safely removed,

              Forms dump files : $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.2/forms

              Reports Cache : $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.2/reports/cache

              Apache logs : $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.3/Apache

              OPMN logs : $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.3/opmn

              Startup/shutdown logs: $INST_TOP/logs/appl/admin/log

              Patch logs: $APPL_TOP/admin/$SID/log/

autoconfig logs (db and apps tier), and clone logs (preclone and post clone)

Usually keeping past few weeks of database alert log is good for diagnosing purposes. Rest of the alert log can be removed.

Its not advisable to remove any logs under $INST_TOP/logs/ora/10.1.3/j2ee as these are frequently required for debugging.

Also schedule these concurrent programs to run periodically "Purge Logs and Closed System Alerts","Purge Obsolete Workflow Runtime Data", and "Purge Signon Audit data"

Additionally cleanup background_dump_dest, user_dump_dest and core_dump_dest on database tier.

All these logfiles are required for diagnostic analysis, apart from that you not much of use. So can you safely remove them

                regards
