Some of the alignment options will come back - but they will be a bit less esoteric.
The real improvement is in the engine that powers the formatter itself. It should recognize and handle ALL oracle sql and plsql syntaxes, including things like analytic functions. It's a night and day comparison from what we had before.
So we're asking folks to put their code through the formatter to make sure it's not throwing syntax errors and is able to format your code in this first EA. And then we can look at tweaking the formatting options themselves in the second EA.
As an example...
SELECT empno, deptno, sal, FIRST_VALUE(sal IGNORE NULLS) OVER (PARTITION BY deptno ORDER BY sal ASC NULLS LAST) AS first_val_in_dept
and 4.2 formatting:
I went through the idea exchange for SQL Developer and a good many of the formatter enhancements were satisfied with this new and improved engine.
But like I said, please help us test this with YOUR code, and let us know where the preferences fall short.
See, we _are_ paying attention ;-)
Thanks for the clarification, Jeff
