    Install SQLDeveloper 4.1.5

    siegwin.port

      Hello,

I downloaded SQLDeveloper Windows 64-bit with JDK 8 included and unzipped it into a new directory. When I tried to start with sqldevoper.exe there was only a very short OS command window and then nothing.

What have I to do to run the Devolper?

      Thank you for your help.

      Regards

      Siegwin

          Hi Siegwin

If SQL Developer cannot write to the user directory then you can get this problem

As outlined in the post below

          problem starting sql developer 4.1.1.19.59

You can force SQL Developer to use another directory. Add something like this line to your installation's sqldeveloper.conf file:

          AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=<path_to_parent_folder_of_system4.1.1.19.59>

          Regards,

          Dermot

            Sorry Dermot,

            it did not work.

I downloaded it again and added a line  This is the actual sqldeveloper.conf

            IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf

            SetJavaHome ../../jdk

            #Set our usage tracking URI
AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=C:\sqldeveloper_neu    <= this is the new line
            AddVMOption  -Dide.update.usage.servers=http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/sqldeveloper/usage.xml

            #Disable the AddinPolicyUtils
            AddVMOption  -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true

            #Draw performance change
            AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false

            #font performance
            AddVMOption -Dwindows.shell.font.languages=

            AddVMOption -Doracle.ide.startup.features=sqldeveloper

            AddJavaLibFile ../lib/oracle.sqldeveloper.homesupport.jar
            AddVMOption -Doracle.ide.osgi.boot.api.OJStartupHook=oracle.dbtools.raptor.startup.HomeSupport

            #Configure some JDBC settings

            AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false
            AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.autoCommitSpecCompliant=false

            # The setting below applies to THIN driver ONLY for others set this to false.
            # Refer to OracleDriver doc. for more info.
            AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.useFetchSizeWithLongColumn=true

            AddVMOption -Dsun.locale.formatasdefault=true
            AddVMOption -Dorg.netbeans.CLIHandler.server=false

            IncludeConfFile  sqldeveloper-nondebug.conf

The try to start did not work. I could only see a short flash.

            Please help me again

try deleting the system4.1... directory in your AppData Roaming Profiles directory for SQL Developer and trying again

When debugging this sort of thing, it is always a good idea to start the product manually from a CMD console window so that any error messages remain in the screen buffer.

you're not in the /bin directory?

There is no bin directory after unzipping the file.

But I downloaded it again and unzipped is. Now it works. I don't know why it didn't work

                      Thank you for your helps

                        sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin

there's an .EXE in the main directory, and in the bin you'll find SDCli, SQLcl, the .bat and .bash scripts and a 32 and 64 bit exe that'll run with and w/o cmd/shell output for debugging
