R12.2 Self Service over a CISCO ASA vpn 404 Error

    gizzmogeek

We ran into an issue during our R12.2.5 upgrade that prevented a large number of people from entering their expense reports and timecard in Oracle Time and Labor for a week before we found a solution. I thought I might document the solution.

      Issue:

When entering an expense report or an OTL timecard, if you used the magnifying glass to search for the project or task you got the following error returned:

      Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
      10.4.5 404 not found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

This was only occurring when users were getting into oracle over the CISCO ASA 5525 Version 8.6(1)2 web portal. If they were inside an office getting in to Oracle this was not occurring, just when using the Cisco ASA portal.

      Solution:

We finally found the problem child.  It was the Cisco ASA hardware. It did not work 100% properly with the new R12.2 instance.  The solution we found that worked is we flashed the Cisco ASA firmware to bring it up to Version 9 and it started working properly with Oracle.  It's a simple solution, but requires having the network hardware team available to upgrade the software to test the solution.
