Are you installing as OS admin?
The Installer crashes, then it surely should be something to do with memory issue...or the explorer.
Is your windows xp stable?
plus do you have enough free space in your c drive ?!
It has nothing to do with the OS admin..login...
The installer is exiting and should be an OS resource issue..
i would have checked for space and memory ...then looked at my OS. Any back ground crazy internet programs running....
I would look at OS since oracle successfully installs in windows xp without a hitch!
Pre-requisite for Oracle 10 G:
1) 256 MB Ram, But atleast 512 MB
If you have 256 MB ram but still it fails reason - Your RAM would be shared with Video Device so you will be loosing at least 32 MB of your total Ram.
2) 256 Color Display at least (Hope this won't be a problem at your side)
3) IP Address or Microsoft Loop back adapter should be configured!
I'm having the same problem installing the Client. Most certainly not a memory issue.
Brand new IBM ThinkPad T60, 1.5GB ram, perfectly stable system other than this issue.
Display is 1400 x 1050 @ 32 bpp, Radeon X1300 128MB
Plenty of free space on the HDD (over 20GB free).
Connected to our corporate LAN directly (wired), although the same problem occurs over WLAN.
Any other ideas?
Nevermind, I figured this out sort of...
I moved the installation files out of My Documents and into C:\Install\10G_R2\client
Installed no problem. Hope that helps someone else.
ahh yes, the old "you have spaces in your pathname" issue...
As a follow-up, Oracle complains when being install to "C:\Program_File\Oracle" instead of "C:\Oracle".
Does "C:\Progra~1\Oracle" work?
It might create the actual C:\Progra~1\ directory if you do that.
Might want to not force the issue and just use C:\Oracle :)
I had exactly the same issue & moving the setup files from my Desktop to C:\clients did the trick for me too.

really thanks alot guys for ur help
i did work for me too transfering installation file to less deep folder, directly on D: drive,
i didn't think path depth could raise such delimma
thank you all
I experienced the same...merely moving the folder to C drive solved the problem....Great help.
moving the installation files to the C drives helps. Another thing to check is the configuration of the TEMP (and or) TMP system variables. They must also not have spaces in them. I ran into that problem installing 11G on my laptop.
I hope this information is of some use to someone..
installer does not run correctly from directories WITH SPACES IN NAME
move the files to something like c:\install\.... make sure without spaces
I also had to make my installation folder 8 characters, from c:\temp\Oracle10Client to c:\temp\Ora10Clt
