What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Yes, just set your NLS date format as desired in the preferences.
I got sick of querying a table in SQLDev and having it give me the database's default data format, which is often DD-MON-YY. So I change it on all of my SQL Dev installations. Go to Tools-->Preferences. Then navigate to Database-->NLS. Then enter the Date Format you want SQL Dev to automatically show you whenever you query a DATE column. You can also change the Timestamp format if you often query TIMESTAMP columns too. Here is how I set mine:
Of course, you can always do it the old fashioned way and wrap your DATE column in TO_CHAR, i.e.:
SELECT to_char(SYSDATE,'MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI') as curr_date_time FROM dual;
But SQL Dev makes this so much easier for you.
Thank´s all you.
That´s exactly what i need.
I changed NLS as indicated, and some queries quit working. Oh well...
Can you elaborate on "quit working"? What errors did you get? Provide a specific example. The NLS settings change should only affect the display of the values from a SELECT statement.
