The normal delay of 5 years after Last-Ship-Date is now over, but we decided to extend the support for an undefined duration.

Hi,

Pascal is basically correct, you can expect at least 5 years of Premier Support for Systems after last shipment date and

"Oracle will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide twelve (12)  months advance notice of  End of Service Life".

Please refer to  "Oracle Lifetime Support Policy for Hardware" for more.

If you have access to MOS documents, there is a good document for further explanation:

"How to check the "End of Service Life" for a particular supported Oracle Hardware that depends on the Lifetime Support Policy (LSP) (Doc ID 2055529.1)"

The following document provides you with an attachment, which is kept actual :
"List of Supported Oracle Hardware (With Last Ship Dates Announced) (Doc ID 1450710.1)"

>>> List of Supported Oracle Hardware with Last Ship Dates Announced

Which is exactly, what you are looking for.

You will  find:

Product                                        Last Ship Date             Premier Support Status

Sun Fire X4170                              Oct 2010                    Active

Would be great if this answered your question correctly. If so, please mark it appropriate to close the issue.

Thank you.

Regards.

Steffen

Hi Pascal & Steffen

1....but we decided to extend the support for an undefined duration...

Is there any official announcement about this please?

2. I heard from one of my colleagues, that oracle has changed his policy regarding life cycle management for HW servers support as below :

The policy of Sun support in the first place was Last Ship Date (EOL) + 5 years=EOS

Oracle recently they have change to GA date+10 years=EOS

Is this right ?

Thanks a lot Pascal & Steffen

So, as a conclusion, can we consider this :

"Sun Fire X4170 server is still under Premier Support till at least for the 12 next months?"

Answer

Hi,

yes that's the right conclusion of the documented "Lifetime Support Policy", in my humble opinion.

if you need more details, you should refer to your local Oracle sales representative.

Kindly close the issue, if the question is answered.

Hope this helps

Steffen
