    OL 7.2 Yum update fail

    3267990

Hi, I have a clean install of OL 7.2 and get the error below. As a DBA with our Sysadmin not available I would appreciate a pointer as most of what I find relates to OL 6.

      Regards

      Les

      [root@bwpsunx04 etc]# yum update

      Loaded plugins: langpacks, ulninfo

      ol7_UEKR3                                                                                                                    |  80 kB  00:00:00

      Trying other mirror.

One of the configured repositories failed (OFED supporting tool packages for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel on Oracle Linux 7 (x86_64)),

and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only

safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:

           1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.

           2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a working

upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer

distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the

packages for the previous distribution release still work).

           3. Disable the repository, so yum won't use it by default. Yum will then

just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it again or use

              --enablerepo for temporary usage:

                  yum-config-manager --disable ol7_UEKR3_OFED20

           4. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is unavailable.

Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most commands,

so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be much

slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a nice

              compromise:

                  yum-config-manager --save --setopt=ol7_UEKR3_OFED20.skip_if_unavailable=true

failure: repoata/repomd.xml from ol7_UEKR3_OFED20: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

          Dude!

I suggest to check whether the computer has enough enough free disk space. Then check if the system can access the Internet and resolve yum.oracle.com. If that does not work, you have most likely found the issue. Otherwise, check /etc/yum.conf and see if your system requires a yum proxy and check your firewall settings or requirements.

As rule of thumb, you can always clean and rebuild the existing yum cache, which could be damaged for several reasons:

          # yum clean all

          # yum makecache

          # yum update

            Thanks for that.

Lots of free space and memory.

Cannot ping - this is blocked.

Can perform wget from yum servers - wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol7.repo

            yum clean all works

yum makecache fails with same errors as yum update. - Error importing repomd.xml

              Dude!

For what it's worth, I just tried as shown below and it's working fine. Perhaps it's a geographical issue since Oracle public yum is hosted by Akamai, but it could also be an issue with your local system. Do you have an external firewall that could be interfering with content or the communication?

                Dude!

I suggest to contact your network admin to confirm that there weren't any changes that for example require to configure a yum proxy, etc.

Hi, the customer assured me that there are no network issues. I can use wget to download from Oracle it is just yum that is not working. As I said it is a clean install and on first attempt yum has failed.

I attempted to use rpm to install packages required from the OL 7.2 iso but there are too many dependencies not on the iso.

I will see if the customer will look at the network again.

Maybe they use a web proxy, in which case yum needs to be configured accordingly.
