The Network Adapter could not establish the connection with SQL*Developer and PDB

    Laury

      Hi,

      I am using SQL*Developer 17.1.0 to connect to a PDB (12.1.0.2), using:

      Connection type: Basis

Hostname: the DNS name of the host (I can ping that host)

Service name: TNS name of the PDB

      I get the following error:

Status: Failure -Test failed: IO-fout: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

From the node where the database is running (the DNS name of the host), I can connect using SQL*Plus.

Does a PDB need a special configuration to be used by SQL*Developer?

      Kind Regards

          Hi

Hostname: the DNS name of the host (I can ping that host)

Did you try with IP address

            Hi,

            Yes, I get:

            C:\Users\users>ping 192.168.1.106

Pinging 192.168.1.106 with 32 bytes of data:

            Reply from 192.168.1.106: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

            Reply from 192.168.1.106: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

            Reply from 192.168.1.106: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

            Reply from 192.168.1.106: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64

            Ping statistics for 192.168.1.106:

                Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

                Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 0ms

            So the SQL*Developer configuration is:

            Connection type: Basis

Hostname: 192.168.1.106 -> The IP address of the database server

Service name: INDRA -> This the PDB

            Any other idea?

            Kind Regards

              Hi

Through the IP address(192.168.1.106) Connection test was success or not?

              Any other idea?

              Means?

Service name: TNS name of the PDB

Show us the actual value of "TNS name of the PDB".

Show us the output of 'lsnrctl status' on the db server.

If your SQL Dev connection type is "basic" (not "basis") then it will not be using tnsnames, and the "service name" you provide will have nothing to do with what's in tnsnames, but must match a service name known to the listener.

Alternatively you could use connection type "tns", and pick the tnsnames entry from the drop list that will be provided with that connection type.

I suspect that the root cause is at OS/networking level & external to Oracle.

                  > I can connect using SQL*Plus.

Please post COPY & PASTE proof that above is true.

Is SQLDeveloper being invoked on or from the same system as the DB Server?

The default behavior for SQLDeveloper is to NOT use content of tnsnames.ora file.

What is OS name & version of DB Server system?

                    Hi,

                    Thanks for all answers

                    The problem has been identified:

                    1) a change in the value of the port for  the listener
                    2) the firewall on the node where resides the listener was not open for that new port
I was unable to perform that check myself because I had not enough authorization.
I just made a service call for that check.

                    Kind Regards

PS: The initial question was simple, Does a PDB need a special configuration to be used by SQL*Developer?
If yes, further reading regarding configuration would have been necessary (my knowledge would have been not sufficient)
If not  - so was the case, then a further investigation regarding the configuration in its whole was necessary
