    EBS R12.1 CPU July 2017

    Nik Kamal

      Hi,

      I being given the task to apply this CPU 2017 for EBS R12.1. This is my first time doing the CPU patch. There are notes for R12.1 mention "You must be on Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 to apply this CPU patch."

      As I check, our Oracle Application server version is 10.1.2.0.2. Does that mean I cannot proceed to apply this CPU patch?

      Regards,

      Nik Kamal

          Correct - 12.1 requires 10.1.3.x of OAS - not sure how you ended up at your current config ? Are you checking the correct ORACLE_HOME ?

          You will need to upgrade OAS first - see MOS Doc 454811.1

            Hi,

            Thank for the fast reply. I got some weird finding after you mention that it suppose to be 10.1.3. If I echo $ORACLE_HOME it show 10.1.2 but when I directly go to the path and go up one level of that directory, it actually have another folder that was 10.1.3. I just working here for couple of month only, so the previous person who handle this already retired before I came in. Is there anyway for me to double check that right now it used which OAS? I also got to know that my company upgrade the EBS from 11 to 12.1.3 previously. It look like kind a mess up. I hope I can make it work properly. Thank and appreciate your answer.

            Regards,

              Hi Nik,

              Source your environment and run the following command:

              > grep PATCHSET $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/comps.xml

              <PATCHSET NAME="oracle.as.j2ee.patchset" VER="10.1.3.4.0" BUILD_NUMBER="0" RELEASE="Production" INV_LOC="PatchSets/oracle.as.j2ee.patchset/10.1.3.4.0/1/" XML_INV_LOC="PatchSets21/oracle.as.j2ee.patchset/10.1.3.4.0/" ACT_INST_VER="10.1.0.6.0" DEINST_VER="10.1.0.2.0" INSTALL_TIME="2008.Nov.27 22:43:57 GMT-08:00">

                 <DESCID>PATCHSET_DESC_1</DESCID>

              </PATCHSET>

              If you are on 10.1.3.5, you will see that version instead.  I haven't patched my Vision instance yet.

              Regards,

              Michael

                Hi mdtaylor,

                I did as u mention and the result look similar to your,

                <PATCHSET NAME="oracle.as.j2ee.patchset" VER="10.1.3.4.0" BUILD_NUMBER="0" RELEASE="Production" INV_LOC="PatchSets/oracle.as.j2ee.patchset/10.1.3.4.0/1/" XML_INV_LOC="PatchSets21/oracle.as.j2ee.patchset/10.1.3.4.0/" ACT_INST_VER="10.1.0.6.0" DEINST_VER="10.1.0.2.0" INSTALL_TIME="2008.Nov.28 14:43:57 MYT">

                   <DESCID>PATCHSET_DESC_1</DESCID>

                </PATCHSET>

                So right now, it mean that I already on 10.1.3.4. so I need to upgrade it to 10.1.3.5 right? how about the $ORACLE_HOME that point it at 10.1.2?should I do any changes on it and what would be the impact? Thanks

                  Yes.  The impact is minimal and it is a required upgrade.  I have not heard of anyone having problems with 12.1 as a result of upgrading to 10.1.3.5.

                  For patching 10.1.3, you need to source the IAS_ORACLE_HOME env file in $INST_TOP/ora/10.1.3.  There should be a sid_host.env file there.

                  There are likely more products you will want to upgrade for 12.1.3.  Here are the relevant notes:
