Messed up EBS 11i Prod :(

    Beauty_and_dBest

      Hi ALL,

      EBS 11i

      9i

      RHEL4

      VM ESX5

I created a clone from backup image VM server. Its hostname = frozen. It resides where the VM PROD resides.

After finishing cloning at frozen host, the PROD instance was down due to the the url is pointing to the clone frozen server

I tried running autoconfig on the PROD instance. Although it is now pointing to the correct hostname, but another issue arises, the java forms does not launch anymore.

It also see the cloned server as another host.

      prod-error.JPG

The "FROZEN" hostname is detected even if I shutdown the server already, Could it the the same PROD instance db being duplicated due to the cloning?

      Please help...

      Kind regards,

      jc

          Hi jc,

You need to shutdown PROD applications, run fnd_conc_clone.setup_clean to clear the fnd_nodes and tns information, then run autoconfig on dbTier and AppTier in PROD.  Then it will not know about the Frozen instance.

          Regards,

          Michael

              Hi jc,

You already completed the action plan provided?  This should correct any malformed profile options preventing the forms from opening.

              Regards,

              Michael

                Hi Micheal,

                Yes, I did the following:

Shutdown PROD applications, run fnd_conc_clone.setup_clean to clear the fnd_nodes and tns information, then run autoconfig on dbTier and AppTier in PROD.  Then it will not know about the Frozen instance.

Yes the Frozen instance was gone. But the jinit forms does not display if whe click the forms  menu like > Securiy > user > define   or any form module.

                Please help..

                  Hi Micheal,

                  Is this related?

I also run this but to no avail

                  For 11i ::

                  =================================

                  Step 1) Shutdown Apache

                  cd $COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts

                  ./adapcctl.sh stop

                  Step 2) perl -x $JTF_TOP/admin/scripts/ojspCompile.pl compile quiet

                  Step 3) Start Apache

                  ./adapcctl.sh start

                    Hi jc,

What is the Sun plugin version on the 11i instance?

                    grep plugin $CONTEXT_FILE

                             <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.6.0_27</sun_plugin_ver>

                             <sun_plugin_type oa_var="s_sun_plugin_type">jdk</sun_plugin_type>

What is the JRE on your PC?  Are you still using Firefox ESR 32 bit version?

Please open javacpl.exe in the JRE bin directory, and enable tracing and logging on the Advanced->Debug area and show java console.  Then provide the messages from the java console when you try to open forms.

                    Regards,

                    Michael

                      Hi Michael,

                      This resolved my issue

We resolved the issue by running fnd node clean , autoconfig, and below:

                      #update JRE client

                      1. edit the appsweb_(host).cfg file under $FND_TOP/resource and $OA_HTML/bin

                      set plugin=jdk instead of plugin=jinit,

                      set sun JDK parameters 1.4.2_04 -> 1.5.0_11

                      set sun plugin url oajinit.exe > jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe

                      Kind regards,

                        Hi jc,

I guess I had assumed if production forms just suddenly stopped working that they had already moved from jinitiator to jdk.  I am also not sure just changing those values is the correct way to enable Sun JRE.

Deploying JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Doc ID 290807.1)

                        Regards,

                        Michael

                          Thanks Micheal,

In fairness your first suggestion resolve the dual hostname issue in OAM. But I can not understand why the frozen VM was able to update the PROD VM as if they are "twins"?

How do I avoid it the next time I do cloning of the PROD instance? without messing the PROD VM? Even if they have different IP, the clone VM is able to penetrate the other PROD VM?which so so weird a scenario.

                          Kind regards,

                            Hi jc,

If I cloned production to frozen and didn't want maintenance on frozen to impact production, I would consider updating /etc/hosts and have the hosts for oracledb and frozen both point to the IP address of the few frozen server.

                            10.10.10.10 frozen.example.com frozen

                            10.10.10.10 oracledb.example.com oracledb

Then if frozen attempts to connect to oracledb, it will be directed to frozen.

                            Regards,

                            Michael

                              Thanks Michael,

Actually maybe I forgot to check that the /etc/host is still oracledb.example.com  for both since it is just image copy

                              Kind regards,
