ULN vs. Oracle Public Yum Server

Amy BartonOct 13 2017 — edited Oct 17 2017

Hello,

I understand that ULN requires the subscription of Oracle Support. What I am trying to figure out is what exactly ULN offers that is not available on the Oracle public yum server.

I came across this discussion Employee Access to ULN or Public Yum? It says: "No. The Public YUM server only contains the packages as released on the DVD ISO images. It does not contain updates, errata or bug fixes within a release. That is only available via ULN." This post was published 6 years ago. Is the information still accurate today? I was thinking that the ULN latest channel is identical to the latest channel on the public yum server, which delivers the errata including bug fixes, feature enhancement and security updates.

In the Oracle spacewalk doc Chapter 2 Spacewalk Concepts . It says "Some repository content, such as update-level specific patch and Ksplice packages, is available from ULN but not from the Oracle Linux Yum Server." Can someone give an example of update-level specific patch?

In short, I am just trying to figure out what exactly ULN offers that is not available on the Oracle public yum server.

Thank you in advance!

Amy
