help with grammar syntax

Dear Ords'ers,

I am reading the fine documentation in order to use ORDS in my apex apps.

Please provide name of or reference to the grammar being used.  I have used BNF in past, not familiar with expressions like "*(" and "a / b" (i think that means OR?).  I am reading docs like

ords.3.0.12.263.15.32/docs/javadoc/plugin-api/route-patterns.html

and

https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3986#section-2.2
