We are experiencing a similar issue as described in following document (Doc ID 2168669.1). The suggested solution does however not apply in release 12 as the roles for OSN are automatically applied, as OIM was replaced by security console in release 12.
The issue we are having is that we can't get anything around Social Objects to work. Our employees has access to OSN and can create Conversation and Task. However, as we try to activate the Social Object in the "Oracle Social Network Objects" task we get the error:
[14:45:47] Connecting to Oracle Social Network
[14:45:47] An error occurred duing processing
[14:45:47] JBO-FND:::FND_OSN_CONNECTION_ERROR: Unable to connect to the Oracle Social Network. Contact your application administrator to verify the configuration.
The activation does however seem to go though as, when we open the task again, the object is displayed as "Manual/Automatc".
Has anyone experienced a similar issue and have you been able to solve it?

After working with the Oracle Support team they realized that it was some form of setup issue that needed to be managed by the Cloud Ops team. After their changes the errors disappeared and OSN is now working.
