Question of Lifetime Support Policy of Java SE when used as part of another Oracle Product

865286May 20 2018 — edited Oct 8 2018

Hi experts,

I have a question about Java SE when used as part of another Oracle Product for example WebLogic Server(WLS).

QUESTION:

Can customers download/use a Java SE on the following condition?

- A version of WLS which is used by a customer is Sustaining Support term.

- The customer did NOT have Extended Support license.

- The customer wants to get a version of Java SE which was released on Extended Support term of WLS.

- The version of Java SE is on Extended Support term of Java SE Advanced.

BACKGROUND:

Regarding to patches of WLS, a customer who did NOT have Extended Support license can download/use a patch if the version of WLS is on Sustaining Support term even though the patch was released on WLS Extended Support term.

But situations such as the following occurs for example:

- WLS12.1.x:

Premier Support End: Dec 2017

Extended Support End: Dec 2019

(Support Java SE 7 and Java SE 8.)

http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-middleware-069163.pdf

- Java SE 7 (Java SE Advancded lisense):

Premier Support End: Jul 2019

Extended Support End: Jul 2022

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/jp/java/javase/downloads/eol-135779.html

A difference occurs between WLS license and Java SE Advanced license if a customer can download/use a Java SE on the above "QUESTION" condition.

A customer who does NOT have Extended Support of Java SE Advanced cannot download/use a version of Java SE which was released on Extended Support term of Java SE Advanced on Jan 2020 for example.

But a customer who does NOT have Extended Support of WLS CAN download/use a version of Java SE which was released on Extended Support Term of Java SE Advanced on Jan 2020 for example.

Any information is helpful.

Regards,

Jun
