Ports not free for installing 12c into a brand new vanilla 11.3 box

    1058971

During the GUI phase of the install, I got an error and this is what I saw in the log.

And it goes on and on trying ports 1521-1538, then dies. Checked the firewall and it's down. As this is a vanilla 11.3, I am at a loss to understand why all these ports are not available. Any tips for troubleshooting?

Also ran netstat|grep 1521 and nothing was found.

Is there any way to complete the remaining steps of the setup outside of the GUI installer at that point? They are

There should be a way to provide some help from Oracle. I am trying to showcase Solaris and Oracle DB, but looks like things are not really in favor of either of them, if the installer for the DB does not work on the OS of the same vendor. Anyone?

              Hi.

This forum is not Oracle support.

In case you have support contract - open Service Request.

              Please show output of commands:

                 netstat -nau | grep 1521

              Regards,

                Nik

                No output from that command.

                  Hi.

It's mean that port 1521 is not used.

Check that all environment variable is defined correctly.

                  For initial -  check ORACLE_HOME.

                  (  echo $ORACLE_HOME  )

                  Regards,

                  Nik

This isn't Solaris preventing this from working - since nothing is using port 1521.

It must be something in the DB environment - I found this doc:

NetCA: Create Listener Fails: Port is in Use Regardless of Port (Doc ID 2186960.1)

Which indicated the $ORACLE_HOSTNAME is not set - or not set correctly.   I suppose something else might be amiss - if that isn't it, you might consider opening an SR with the DB support folks (I'm a Solaris network person myself) - they should be able to get you up and running pretty quickly.

                    Regards,

                    - Neil

Yes, that's perfectly clear. This is Oracle 12c installer problem that it believes ports are in use while nothing is using them. After using the Retry button the installation completed, at least all items have been marked with green check marks. The install still wrote port 1539 into the listener.ora though.

                        sleepyweasel

For a 12c install issue, I found that the DBA had tried to remove the install to attempt a reinstall.  This left some processes running, as well as they didn't fully remove all the binaries -- both caused the 12c installer issues.  After killing the stale processes from their prior install attempt and cleaning out the product area, they were able to run the installer w/out issues.

In my case there was no killing of any processes: I simply hit the Retry button and it installed. The install is still not operational, but at least the installer was able to proceed to completion. At this point I throw my hands in the air and give up. This endeavor is too high maintenance and I have run out of time to get this up and running many moons ago.
