I'm using apex 5.1 and universal theme.

I have a page with IR and if I select action->download->PDF it creates the PDF but you cannot open it.

Below is the error I'm getting

          Hi,

Does this happen with all your reports or only that one? Do you have any special characters in your headers or data?

99% of the time, the file you recieve is actually an HTML file with the actual error.  However, the filename is PDF and the MIME Type is for PDF (instead of HTML).  Thus, the OS things it is a PDF when it is actually HTML.

Save the file, and change the extension from ".pdf" to ".html".  Then, try to open it.

              NOTE

You MUST have the print server properly configure.

              CASE server choice

                   WHEN "APEX LISTENER (ORDS)"

This setting does not work with EPG (Embedded PL/SQL Gateway).

You must connect to APEX through ORDS.

GET_PRINT_DOCUMENT() will not work with this setup.

                   WHEN "External (Apex FOP)"

You must use ORDS as your end-point.

You must set the ACL to ensure that the APEX schema has access to your ORDS server

                   WHEN "BI Publisher"

You must have an appropriate license for BI Publisher ($$$$$$)

You must set the ACL to ensure that the APEX schema has access to your BI Publisher server.

              END CASE;

Please provide proof that you have followed these minimum requirements. (except the BI Publisher license).

If you need help, let us know.

Mike below is the context of the pdf/html file created.

ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.

                  SCRIPT=/apex    huh?

ORDS normally shows up as "/ords".  But, you can use /apex if you rename ords.war to apex.war

Which version of APEX are you using?

What version of ORDS are you using?

Which J2EE Server are you using?  and Version?  (and underlying Java version?)

Which database version (all 4 numbers) are you using? which edition?

How is your report printer server configured?  (show image of this please)

If your report server is not "APEX Listener (ORDS)" servers, did you configure the ACL? (please post proof of this)

Oracle DB = 11.2.0.3.0 enterprise edition

                    Apex version = 5.1.3.00.05

                    ORDS version = 3.0.3.351.13.24

                    J2EE Server = Apache Tomcat 7.0.70

                    I renamed ords.war to apex.war when I installed it.

I have not done anything with printer server I basically followed the apex installation for apache tomcat and ORDS. Once it was working I didn't do anything else since my goal initially was to use APEX for prototypes.

Do I need to configure printer server for you to use the download feature for IR?

                    Thanks

                      Thanks

Yes.  You have to configure your Printer Server under the APEX Administrator (workspace=INTERNAL)

Since you are using ORDS to access APEX, you can select "Apex Listener (ORDS)" as your print server type.

For that one, that is all you have to do.  For the others, you'll have to add an ACL rule.
