You have to do the following after installing Cygwin:
C:\> copy gawk.exe awk.exe
C:\> copy grep.exe egrep.exe
C:\> copy make.exe gnumake.exe
C:\> copy gcc.exe cc.exe
Then, add the cygwin bin directory to the system path:
C:\> set path=%path%;C:\cygwin\bin
if there is any other alternative to MKSYou either install MKS or use Cygwin instead.
There are no files by name make.exe & gcc.exe.
Hey is it advisable to go with MS XP Home Edition or switch to MS XP Professional.

I am trying to install oracle apps in my notebook. Folllowing is the configuration,
Processor: Core Duo T2300 1.66 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
Am trying to install in drive D: (over 80 GB)
Please send me ur comments as to how to proceed with installation. If u have any guide please email it to be @ firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks in advance...
The total space required for a single node system, not including the stage area, is 57 GB for a fresh install with a production database, and 91 GB for a fresh install with a Vision Demo database.
If you could manage to get 2 GB RAM, it would be much more better.
For installation steps, please refer to the following link:

Successfully Intalled Oracle 11i E-Business Suite in windows platform !
Thanks man. Based on the information provided by u, I will make a single HDD partition (which will a lil over 110 GB)..
Now i have two options Win XP Professional & Linux. Please advice which one to go for. Which of the two is easy to install oracle apps on? Also please let me know if I go for Linux, do i still require VC++ & MKS / Cygwin.
i think its is better to go for linx, less pre-reqs and esiare to manage, for linux you dont need those spiscifi tools (VC++ & MKS / Cygwin) but there are replcement for them in lunx you can install form the linux os cds check the follwoing link
Oracle is not Magic, it just takes years of experience
I shall try installing oracle apps on Linux. One more help. Can u please explain about installing Linux on a Note book and then how to go about disk partitions for installing oracle apps.
jsut follow http://appsdbablog.com/blog/2007/04/installing_oracle_enterprise_l.html to install lunix and if you need help just let me know, for the disk partitions you can have only one partation for the apps and the db or you can put the db on a pratation (60 GB)and the application tire on other pration (30 GB) and you can put the stage11i (20-25)
you can do the partaion as you like as long as you have the space requred for you vis installation
I have a lil over 110 GB of HDD. Suggest the best option.
Also i have Linux 'update 6' CDs with me. That will do or i will have to download Linux Enterprise. I have no idea about linux installation. What is boot, swap, etc partitions. If I select "Automatic Partition", will that be single partition?
are you doning this istallation for prodcution system or just for your own testing?
I need to install vision demo for my own practice.
ok for testing you can choose Manual Partition and make 3 partitions one for the db (65) GB and one for the applciaiton (30 GB) and one for the stage area you need around (20-25) GB i dont remmber exactly, for the sizes maybe some one have more accuret sized than i do i was depending on my memory for that,
or you can simpley have one partation for the whole harddisk and you can do the installation for the applcaiton and database and the stage area on it, which will let you get binitfit of the whole harddisk

Simply go with one partition unless you are familiar with it. If this is your first time installation then I suggest you manage to get the tools (VC++, MKS, Cygwin) and install it on Windows XP, once you are done with it you can manage to install it on Linux.
I installed RHEL 3 update 6. But GUI is not coming... it gives me two options at the start.. both the options takes me to consol asking local host... i entered user name as root and then password... it still doesnt take me to any GUI.. can u guide me on this...
