For some reason the release note for this didn't get published: It should have read:
Solaris 11.4 Beta may not boot under certain x86 hypervisors
This beta refresh release of Oracle Solaris 11.4 may reset during boot when run
as a guest under certain hypervisors. This is known to affect those which utilize
QEMU technology, including KVM and OCI emulation mode, and VMWare Fusion, but may impact other platforms as well.
You may workaround this issue temporarily by adding "enforce-prot-exec=off" to the kernel boot options as described in
This will disable use of Non-Exectuable (NX) page protections by the Oracle Solaris operating system.
This issue will be fixed in an upcoming release of Oracle Solaris 11.4.
