The Dataprotector manual has many commands that you can use, and it will give you examples
Typically you'll see something like this, and the manual will advise you exactly parameters to use:
allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(OB2BARTYPE=Oracle8, OB2APPNAME=<dbname>, OB2BARLIST=<label>)';
backup incremental level 0

I know these run blocks to make a backup or restore.
In the backup and recovery training however, I saw some examples with the RMAN commands "list failure", "advise failure" and "repair failure".
In this training all examples are used with the default disk channel but we use tapes as backup medium (sbt).
You run the RMAN data recovery advisor (ie list failure, advise failure, repair failure) against the database, not against a backup.
Run the RMAN data recovery advisor commands any time.
