This must be an artifact of implementing this feature request.
I can reproduce the problem in worksheet:
the parenthesis are not matched.
They are matched as soon as you add trailing semicolon, or exhibit more complicated query:
SELECT ( SELECT trunc(columndate)
This is fixed for 19.1. If you have other test cases, please don't hesitate to publish them.
And how to get 19.1 or is it going to be published in the future only? In that case it is necessary to rollback to 18.3 to get it working?

18.4 went out this week.
19.1 is scheduled for end of the quarter - so the developer is saying, i see your issue, it's fixed for our next update, for whenever you're able to get that.
